"Paddy"
My Dad (John) was born on th 2nd March 1930 and spent his childhood in Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland. After leaving school he worked in the building industry often working with his older brother Chris. He worked in various parts of the UK and had spells living in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland until eventually settling in Sheffield where he joined the Police Force in the late fifties.

My dad trained at Panel Ash near Harrogate and went on to work in Sheffield town centre based at West Bar Police station. Later he had spells working on the Wyburn estate and at Park Hill where he spent many years. 'Paddy', as he was known, was a well-liked and respected Police officer not only by his colleagues but also by all sections of the local community. He finished his working life in 1984 after working in the Charge Office and at Headquarters. I've thought back to the sixties and seventies to remember my dad's friends and colleagues. Here are some of the people I can recall; Ken Raines, Len Bellamy, Denis Wragg (West Bar), Big Paul O'leary, Dougie Rosevere, Peter Booth and Don Brocklehurst from Park Hill section station. I'm sorry if I've missed anyone out.
In retirement my dad had a number of interests and an association with St. Theresa's Church on Prince of Wales Road where he was involved with charity nights raising money for the church to assist them sending people to Lourdes in France. This involved putting on old time music shows in working men's clubs across the region. My dad had a good tenor voice and he would take his turn to entertain, usually singing his favourite song 'Danny Boy'. In more recent times with failing health he enjoyed the quiet life spending time with his family and with his pet dog "Jilly" whom he thought the world of. His good humour and kindness are sadly missed.

Grandchildren: Daniel, Sean, Kay, James, Louise, Lee and Abbey.
