Days With The Blades

The Blades V Blackburn 9th September 2006

Thanks to Alan Palfreyman from The Sun for another great day. Pity about two missed Blades' penalties though. Never mind is was a superb day out in the Directors' box.

The Blades versus Ipswich 7th February 2005

Many thanks to Alan Palfreyman for another invite to the Directors' Box for the game against Ipswich. Pity about the result though. Ipswich were the better side and beat us comfortably 2 - 0. My brother Peter and I enjoyed the day though.

The Blades versus Leicester 28th December 2004

Thanks to Alan Palfreyman for another day at the Blades on 28th December 2004. Good win against Leicester City too! It was great to meet up with my old friend Alan Palfreyman as Pete and I were his guests at Bramall Lane. Ted Hemsley and Tony Agana were there and I had a good old chat with Blades legend Ted Hemsley. As a young lad I watched Ted play many times for the great side of the late sixties and early seventies. He also played first class cricket for Worcestershire. It was a real pleasure to meet him and Tony.

The Blades versus Stoke City 17th April 2004

I enjoyed another great day as a guest of Alan Palfreyman when The Blades played Stoke City recently (17th April 2004). Alan had previously invited me to the Ipswich game in 2002 (report below) and it was great to meet up again.

Before the Stoke game the Blades' hospitality was superb with everyone making a real effort to make our day special. The United staff do a superb job. We were taken on a tour of the ground which took us round the dressing room during which I'm sure one of the shirts appeared to have HANNA written on the back...or was it my mind playing tricks.

The game was an enjoyable day except for the result....United lost 1-0. This effectively ended our play-off chances and was the first game that Alan had been involved with that United had lost in twelve years.

The Blades versus Ipswich 2002

I had the pleasure of attending the Sheffield United v Ipswich game in 2002 as a guest of my childhood friend Alan Palfreyman. Alan was a neighbour of mine when I grew up in Gleadless, Sheffield and I had not seen him for twenty five years. It was great to meet up again.

It was a real thrill for my brother Pete and me to meet some of the greats from The Blades. We had a fantastic day and the welcome we received was first class. We were treated to a tour of the ground including a walk on the hallowed turf. Here we are in the dressing room where Pete and I had just had a "we're not worthy" moment. As you can see in the photo below I am in very distinguished company.

More famous faces. On this photo we are joined by Jon Harley who that day was making his Blades debut. Our old friend Alan Palfreyman is third from the left.
